True story from me. Safe to say this isn t optimal but never had any problems. But carpets are really good at trapping dust pet hair and all manner of other things. I can t put it on the desk because it could literally kill the kids if it fell off on them or even the dogs.

Because all towers have small plastic or rubber legs placing your tower directly on a rug or carpet would allow your tower to sink into the carpet and not allow complete airflow.
In a desk drawer or shelf many desks have a shelf or drawer that can hold a tower that gets it off the floor. Typically these are adjustable rolling stands made of either metal or plastic. And your computer well it s a giant vacuum cleaner. My current pc sits on the carpet under my desk without issue however from what i can see my new machine has a case and psu with vents underneath so sitting it on the carpet is probably not a bright idea.
Feet and chairs can hit the tower while data is writing or a foot grabs a power cords and now you have corrupted files. Also it would look just stupid for a tower that size on the desk.
